Thailand’s Beaches Win 4 International Awards
The paradise beaches of Thailand have been globally recognised as the best in Asia in the latest Traveler’s Choice awards 2010 by TripAdvisor.
Four Thai islands, Ko Lanta, Khao Lak, Koh Phangan and Koh Samui were ranked 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th respectively on the list of “Top 10 Beach & Sun Destinations in Asia” making the land of 1000 smiles the most awarded-Asian country in the category.
Having visited each of these beaches personally I can certainly vouch for their credibility as award winners; the white soft sands of Koh Samui are blissful to walk upon at sunset and Koh Phangan is not just a party island but a stunning tranquil retreat.
Thailand, one of the most popular tourism destinations in SE Asia and the world, however is not only a beach lovers mecca, if you travel north of Bangkok, up to the cultural capital of Chiang Mai which was included in the “Top 10 Culture & Sightseeing Destinations in Asia” you will discover a new side to the country.
Lush green forests teaming with wildlife including elephant sanctuaries, beautiful temples, the famous Night Bazaar and some of the best spas in the country (Chiang Mai was also listed as one of the “Top 10 Relaxation & Spa Destinations in Asia” along with Koh Lanta and Koh Samui).
And the bustling, cosmopolitan capital of Bangkok should not just be thought of as an entry and exit point as the city boasts some of the finest Thai architecture including the Grand Palace and Thai food. The city, home to some 6 million people, was also named in the “Top 10 Food & Wine Destinations in Asia” and there is nothing quite like eating fragrant Thai green curry freshly prepared by a street vendor.
